Physical fitness is of great interest in public safety workforces. Occupational hazards such as chemicals, extreme temperature, particles, and heavy physical demands due to firefighting have been widely investigated 6, 7, while emerging evidence discloses an unhealthy nutritional environment and sedentary behavior, which may contribute to chronic lifestyle-related diseases that are prevalent among firefighters 3, 8, 9, including cancers, obesity, hypertension, cardiomegaly, coronary heart disease and other cardiovascular disease (CVD) 4, 5, 8, 10.
